For many actors and actresses, winning the coveted Academy Award is a major Hollywood milestone.
But for these 11 stars including Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, Amy Adams, Bette Midler, and more! – winning an Oscar is, unfortunately, a career checkmark they’re still working on, despite having been nominated several times
Tom Cruise
The Dark Shadows actor, 52, has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role on three different occasions for his performances in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Finding Neverland and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, though he has not yet won the honor.
Tom Cruise
Tom, 53, has been nominated for an Academy Award three times for his roles in Born on the Fourth of July,Jerry Maguire and Magnolia, but has unfortunately never won.

Glenn Close
She is considered by many to be one of the greatest film actresses of her time, but Glenn, 68, has lost the Academy Award all six times she’s been nominated.
Bruce Willis
The Die Hard star has appeared in more than 60 feature films and has the title of the ninth highest-grossing actor in a leading role, but Bruce, 60, has surprisingly never received an Oscar nomination.

Hugh Jackman
The Australian actor, 47, is best known for his roles in blockbusters including Australia, Prisoners and the X-Men film series, but he has only been nominated for one Academy Award for his portrayal of Jean Valjean in 2012’s Les Misérables.
Bette Midler
The Divine Miss M, 70, has been nominated for two Best Actress Academy Awards for her performances inThe Rose and For the Boys, but walked away without the statuette both times. The iconic singer and actress is, however, the proud owner of three Grammy Awards, four Golden Globes, three Emmy Awards and a special Tony Award.
Laura Linney
Laura, 52, has been nominated for an Oscar three times for her work in You Can Count on Me, Kinsey and The Savages, but has never won.
Samuel L. Jackson
Despite starring in more than 100 films, the Patriot Games star, 67, has never won an Academy Award, though he was nominated for his role in 1994’s Pulp Fiction.
