October 5, 2016

Proving once again that she is a style queen, Bette Midler has showed off a bold new look for her special guest appearance on ‘The Voice America’.

Filmed earlier in the year, Bette ditched the grey and dyed her hair blonde with tinted strands of a lovely light pink, bringing just the right amount of style and class.

Viewers caught a glimpse of her ‘do in the new promotional video for the show, in which Bette is starring as a guest judge this season. Read More

BetteBack December 16, 1973: Bette’s Second Album A Danger Sign?

The first time I heard Bette Midler on record I didn’t really care for her. She sounded a bit pretentious, a trifle over-baked and more than a little false. But then I saw her one night on Johnny Carson‘s show and it changed my whole opinion of her.

On that show, she wore a wonderfully tacky outfit, went through some horrendous choreography and sang “Chattanooga Choo Choo” with such enthusiasm that no one would be heartless enough to tell her the whole act was 30 years out of date. Read More

The straight and narrow: Bette Midler‘s character in the film version of “First Wives Club” has been “straightened out.” In the best seller on which the Paramount picture is based, Midler’s character is a woman who has an affair with her female divorce attorney.

Producer Scott Rudin said that by the time he became involved with the project, “I inherited a draft of the script containing no mention of a lesbian affair.” He does say, though, that the film now features “a lesbian bar scene that is very funny.” He added that Diane Keaton‘s daughter in the movie is homosexual. She wasn’t in the book. “First Wives Club,” which wraps next week in New York, hits theaters in July. Read More

Bette Midler Passes On Movie, ‘Straight Talk’

Cedar Rapids Gazette

Dolly Parton says she experienced deja vu playing a dancer turned talk show host in her new movie “Straight Talk.”

The country singer said she beat out such actresses as Julia Roberts, Bette Midler and Goldie Hawn because the role of a Southern woman who goes after her dreams was meant for her.

“This character is not separate from me in any way.” Parton said last week. “There were times, between takes, when it would be* just like deja vu.” Read More
