Perhaps you noticed her as the smart, put-together lawyer working for Bernie Madoff in the recent HBO movie The Wizard of Lies. Or perhaps you clocked her as the similarly no-nonsense political staffer Tanya Benson in the just-released fifth season of Netflix’s House of Cards. Either way, Sophie von Haselberg has made her mark on some of the season’s most talked about releases—she also starred in and produced the short YOYO, which appeared at the Tribeca Film Festival. 7 Divas Who Should Replace Bette Midler in ‘Hello, Dolly!’ and the One Who Probably Will
Written by Alexander Kacala on May 26, 2017

Bette Midler is slaying audiences every night as Dolly Levi in Broadway’s recent revival of the classic musical comedy Hello, Dolly! Well, not every night, as Donna Murphy fills in on Tuesdays.

There’s been no word from production on who will replace Midler when she leaves after a year, but here are eight divas we think could fill her shoes. We’ve ranked them in terms of likeliness, ending with a rumor that has been circulating and which seems very probable (and very … country). Read More

Trudie Styler, best known as Sting’s better half, doesn’t like an audience. As she sits down at the rooftop restaurant of a Cannes hotel to discuss “Freak Show,” her feature film directorial debut, she gently asks if her publicist can grab a coffee, saying she gets nervous talking in front of several people.

“I’ll make sure we don’t talk about tantric sex,” she jokes, a nod to the much-picked over aspects of her love life with Sting. Read More

BetteBack October 22, 1974: The Disasterous Roast Of Johnny Carson

Star News

Johnny Carson explained to Filmland friends Saturday evening. .”I’ve married three times because, as a concerned American . I’ve wanted to spread the wealth more evenly among the populace.”

And that was about the funniest line to come out of The Friars’ Club Charity Roast honoring “The King Who Rules Midnight.”

Perhaps never have so many comedians laid such a massive quantity of eggs as were hatched at the dais ol the Grand Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel Saturday evening. The head table consisted of a multimillion dollars worth of talent — including Lucille Ball, George Burns. Red Buttons., Buddy Hackett. Bob Hope. Alan King, Bette Midler. Jan Murray. Carroll O’Connor. Burt Reynolds and Don Rickles. yet by the end of the program even the professional comedians who are usually each other’s most appreciative audience’ had trouble not lookhig bored. When you’re a buddng actress following in the footsteps of your Emmy, Grammy, and Golden Globe award-winning mother, there’s an added pressure to deliver. But for Sophie von Haselberg (whose mom happens to be Bette Midler), that pressure was alleviated by years of avoiding the industry all together. In an attempt to shake the acting bug, the 30-year-old New York native studied sociology and East Asian studies at Yale University. She even gave publishing a spin, and interned at Vanity Fair the summer before her senior year—but there was no escaping the irresistible pull of Hollywood. Read More

Looks like fans of the original “First Wives Club” will not be getting an Elise Eliot, Brenda Morelli Cushman and Annie MacDuggan Paradis reunion after all.

Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, and Diane Keaton‘s Netflix movie “Divanation” is no longer moving forward.

The “Snatched” star was on Andy Cohen’s “Watch What Happens Live” Thursday where she revealed that the movie was a no-go. Read More

BetteBack September 4, 1974: Bette Midler Makes Number One On Worst Dressed List

Appleton Post Crescent
September 4, 1974

2016-06-12_9-03-07

Singer Bette Midler is No. 1 on Mr. Blackwell‘s list of the 10 worst dressed women of 1973. No. 10 is a man: rock music star David Bowie.

For only the second time in 14 years of issuing the list, Blackwell included a man.

The designer explained, “If they want to face the public as a woman, they deserve to make the list.” He described Bowie as “a cross between Joan Crawford and Marlene Deitrich doing a glitter revival of ‘New Faces’.” Read More

Singer Bette Midler seems to be making enemies at a fast clip these days.

Last year she ridiculed Cher, who was experiencing the biggest hit of her career.

Then Midler closed the year with some jabs at fellow diva Barbra Streisand during her New Year’s Eve show in Vegas. She had a Streisand impersonator saunter onto the stage near midnight. Acting stunned, Midler queried, “Barbra, what are you doing here?”

The Streisand look-alike responded, “I wanted to be with my husband at midnight.” Read More

The Las Vegas Journal
Monday, Jan. 2, 2000

“The Divine Miss Millennium” was the best “Bette” for concert entertainment in Las Vegas as the year-decade-century-millennium drew to a close.

Her Divineness Bette Midler gave a performance that delighted the many people who came from around the globe specifically to share the historic occasion with their favorite unrestrained personality.

“I can’t believe you came to be with me on the last night of planet Earth,” quipped the ever-glowing singer as she strutted around the stage before a near-capacity audience in the 8,500-seat Mandalay Bay Events Center. Read More
