A rose by any other name: You read it here first — the Divine Miss M (to the uninitiated, that’s renowned songbird and environmentalist Bette Midler) is confirmed to headline the Jan. 31 Raising Hope gala, the sixth biennial fundraiser for the Comprehensive Cancer Center at UCSF.

Gary and Nanci Fredkin and Cathy and Mike Podell will once again serve as gala co-chairs for this most successful philanthropic event, which has raised almost $17 million since its inception in 1996. Event designer Stanlee Gatti will (once again) dream up the look and feel of the party when he works his magic on a brand-new space: the Mission Bay campus of UCSF.

Folks, this gala is not only fun — guests are gifted with one of the best goody bags around. Operators are standing by.
