Bette Midler vs Bernadette Peters With The Critics: In The End It Just Boils Down To Personal Preference – Stop Comparing!

Mister D: I know some of you don’t want to see any comparison reviews because it pits two beloved stars and friends against one another, but you knew it was going to happen. So I picked out some that said the same thing as the others, and what it really boils down to is personal tastes and fandom. The Peter’s fans are going to pick her and the Midler fans will pick Midler. Midler will win of course because she is an international star where Bernadette is basically a favorite of the Broadway crowd. It’s just a fact. So I see no reason to even argue with one another. Neither side is going to listen. And don’t feel sorry for these ladies. They are both at the top of their game, they have made it in an industry that is callous and cruel. Believe me both women can handle what is thrown at them. Yes, I’m sure they still get hurt feelings, but by now they have learned to say “fuck it, I’m a star!!!” Read More

Bette Midler On Her Desire For Her TV Series:

Bette Midler On Her Desire For Her TV Series: ” My overarching desire is to really make people laugh the way they haven’t laughed in years. I don’t like mild TV The true test of a comedian is to make you laugh until you cry. To me that’s great art. No one did this better than the late Lucille Ball. I knew her. I adored her. I don’t have half the skills that she had. For my money, that’s the standard. The bar for great, intelligent comedy has always been Lucy.” (Knight Ridder/Tribune News Service, January 9, 2001 Read More

‘Freak Show’ Film Review: The freak flag gets stuck at half-mast

Freak Show‘ Film Review: The freak flag gets stuck at half-mast

Alex Lawther stars as a transplanted gay teen whose fabulousness doesn’t play so well in the red state South until he takes a stand by running for homecoming queen in Trudie Styler‘s feature debut.

An heir to the John Hughes teen-outsider fantasy legacy, dressed up in glitter drag with a big fat inclusiveness message, Freak Flag is your basic Mike Pence nightmare. Directed in her feature debut by actress, producer, eco-activist and rock star consort Trudie Styler, who has enlisted an impressive roster of contacts both in front of and behind the camera, this formulaic feel-good comedy about the empowerment of a bullying victim was adapted from the popular 2007 YA novel by former club kid James St. James. That it unfolds with a near-complete absence of finesse or subtlety probably won’t matter a whit to a target audience weaned on Glee. Read More

For a night known as Hollywood’s most notorious open-bar gala, the Golden Globes ceremony remains (somewhat) shrouded in mystery.

Most viewers probably don’t even know who presents it (the Hollywood Foreign Press Association), how many voting members it has (only about 90), or what qualifies them to pass judgment on movies and television. Yet movie fans and awards mavens continue to take the Golden Globes seriously as a precursor to the Academy Awards, since some of the Globe honorees will indeed go on to win Oscars. Read More

Bette Midler On Being Lucky In Hollywood:

Bette Midler On Being Lucky In Hollywood: “It didn’t start out as that at all, In fact, Goldie, Diane and I have been pretty lucky. There are a lot of women our age who have started out on the same path and haven’t had the good luck we have. But what can you do? I’m too old to have an axe to grind any more. I can’t go tilting at windmills for the rest of my life and all the yelling and venom in the world isn’t going to help anyone. As far as Hollywood is concerned, the bottom line is the dollar. That’s the only thing that’s going to change them I would love to get my revenge on the system and believe me if I had a chance I would. But you can’t spend your entire life in that mould But you know what?” she says, her smile breaking into the biggest grin you’ve ever seen. “A hit is always the best revenge!” (Sunday Mirror, 1996) Read More

The original CC took to Twitter on Tuesday night.

No one is more excited to see the upcoming TV revival of Beaches than Bette Midler.

In the 1988 feature film, Midler played the iconic role of CC Bloom, an aspiring singer who meets Hillary (played Barbara Hershey) as a kid on the Venice Boardwalk. The pair’s lifelong friendship is chronicled over decades in the beloved tearjerker, which was directed by Garry Marshall. Read More
