Mister D: I’m going to take a wild stab at this and say the mega-watt stars have nothing to do with this.

Hocus Pocus is getting a 25th anniversary celebration this Halloween. Freeform has announced that the network will be including a Hocus Pocus 25th Anniversary Extravaganza as part of their annual Halloween-themed programming block this year. Not only that, but instead of the usual 13 nights, the network has announced they are going to extend the event for the entire month of October, now branded as 31 Nights of Halloween. This Hocus Pocus event is just part of what the network has in store, but will no doubt be something 90s Disney fans will be looking forward to. Read More

Bette Midler – Stay With Me – Experience The Divine Tour – 1993

Bette Midler – Stay With Me – Experience The Divine Tour – 1993 – it baffles me why there aren’t more views on Bette’s performances of Stay With Me. Are the performances just too intense? I mean I’m drained after listening to any of them. I’ve heard people sing it with “better voices” but they don’t even come close to evoking the emotions Bette bleeds out of this song. And I can be objective. It’s very rare when I like somebody’s version better than Bette’s, but I have found them. I might not be able to fill up a whole hand with the versions, but they’re there. Anyway, I just think this song should be higher in views on any channel, but maybe her comedy takes are just more popular. This song alone should get her in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame – Don, Mister D Read More

Famed Critic Pauline Kael Speaking Of Bette Midler In “Divine Madness”

Mister D: I remember the time Pauline Kael was on Tom Snyder’s old talk show. He asked her who should win the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1979. Without pause she said Bette Midler for the Rose. She said I haven’t heard lines read like that in decades and if she doesn’t win the Oscars mean nothing. This was when critics had considerable power over what was a hit or miss in movies She was considered one of the greatest critics. Check out some books on her. Bruce Vilanch said he sat next to her in Divine Madness. She was a big Bette Midler fan before the movies. She was upset with the end product of Divine Madness because of the editing and how they ended the movie. She said a real Bette Midler concert would not end like that. It would end up with a happy, upbeat song, like “Friends” After she saw Jinxed, she was sure Hollywood would ruin the Bette we knew growing up. That’s me hearsay and gossip. IF I’m wrong Bruce, let me know. It’s been a while and I might have succumbed to the Telephone Game. Read More

From Don, AKA Mister D: I’m Still Here – My Father’s Passing And My Health (Not Required Reading, For Those Interested

Hi Betteheads:

Just wanted to let you know that I haven’t abandoned you or my site or Bette Midler.  It’s just been an awful couple of months that have put me down hard.  As I think I told you my body stopped producing testosterone, but I can’t take testosterone injections because my red blood cell count is too high making my blood very thick. The regular ways of reducing red blood cells haven’t worked on me so I’m starting to see a blood disease doctor to see if they can figure it out, Read More

Rare Audio: Gone At Last – Bette Midler & Paul Simon – Rehearsal Demo 1973

Mister D: Here is a rehearsal demo of Bette and Paul Simon singing his song, “Gone At Last.” Probably why she sounds so subdued. This started the infamous feud between them. He decided to go a different direction with the song and replaced Bette with Phoebe Snow. Bette didn’t know about it until she heard it on the radio. She did however incorporate the song in her legendary show, Clams On The Half Shell. She and Paul Simon reconciled in 1984 during the recording of “We Are The World” They performed recently together as duet partners at one of the annual Children’s Health Fund benefit. Read More

Audio: Bette Midler – You’re Moving Out Today UK Single Version (Yes, It Sounds Different In Some Ways)

Mister D: I’m not sure about the first half of the song, but the last verse I heard differences in phonetics, harmony, and maybe listening again a little looser vibe. Also the vocals seemed more out front.

“You’re Moving Out Today”

I stayed out late one night and you moved in.
I didn’t mind ’cause of the state you were in.
May I remind you that it’s been a year since then?

Today the landlady, she said to me,
“Your loony friend just made a pass at me.”
Perhaps you might enjoy a cottage by the sea. Read More

Bette Midler – Photoshoot – Mister D: Not sure what this is from. I always thought it might be a photo from “That Old Feeling” when she talks about her “fat phase” as an actress.

8 Problematic Early Eminem Songs That Wouldn’t Fly In 2016 – Especially This Bette Midler Lyric

Mister D: Eminem may have a thing for Miss M since he also uses her song The Rose in the background for his rap “Arose” on his new album.

Few musicians have been as polarizing as Eminem, hip-hop’s great white hope and the terror of the religious right. He built a career thriving off of others’ outrage, pushing himself to find the limits of what people deemed acceptable in pop music. At his best when he’s punching up, whether at a bully, rappers that underestimate him, or authority figures, he’s often looked real ugly, like when he’s attacking the mentally disabled. Read More
