Bette Midler On Why She Took Off For A Year:

Bette Midler On Why She Took Off For A Year:”Everything happened so fast,” she said. “There was a lot of pushing and shoving, people grabbing at me, grabbing at the show I had worked two years with only two weeks off, appearing in a lot of strange places hotel lobbies, bus stops, shopping centers. Two years after I started I was playing The Palace and there was a lot of heavy breathing. I had no temper left and I was snapping at people, the way I always do when I am tired. So I just took off. I went to Paris.” (Charleston Gazette, January 16, 2016) Read More

2 Articles Take On Lady Gaga And The Tactics Of The Little Monsters

Mister D: I’ll open this up with a snippet from another article from the Huffington Post:

“It might sound like Bette is joking but believe me many a true thing is said in anger,” a friend of Midler’s tells me. “She’s fed up of these younger stars coming forward and stealing her act. To this day she regrets never saying anything in the early 80’s when Madonna replaced her as the queen of vulgar without ever crediting her. Now she’s had enough and needed to speak out. If it wasn’t for Bette there would be no Madonna and if it wasn’t for Madonna we would have no Lady Gaga.”

At least Gaga is ‘borrowing’ from the best!

Madonna Disses Lady Gaga Again – Other Celebs Who Don’t Like the Singer
By Koty Neelis | Yahoo! Contributor Network – Mon, Jul 23, 2012 11:29 AM PDT

Madge is at it again. The legendary pop singer is taking digs at Lady Gaga once more, this time in a Brazilian interview.

“I’m a really big fan of Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way,'” Madonna said. “I’m glad I helped Gaga write it.” The snide comment was originally caught on video and posted to YouTube but has since been removed.

Madonna has made several negative comments regarding Lady Gaga over the years and even more so when “Born This Way” was released due to its similarity to the icon’s hit song “Express Yourself.”

“I thought [when I heard ‘Born This Way’], this is a wonderful way to redo my song [‘Express Yourself’]. I mean, I recognized the chord changes. I thought it was…interesting,” she said earlier this year.

The pop diva isn’t the only one who isn’t feeling Gaga’s get up. Several other celebrities have expressed their distaste for the over the top performer.

Marilyn Manson
When Gaga first came out critics said she was a marketing creation influenced by Marilyn Manson and Madonna due to her infusion of pop music and shock and scare tactics in her music and performances. Manson wasn’t too pleased with being compared to the singer, even though the two have worked in the studio together on one of Gaga’s remixes.

“I’m starting to feel that people are saying I’m Lady Gaga and also that Jesse James woman. I’m starting to feel insulted, ’cause I don’t want to look like either one of them,” he said.

We can definitely see the freaky similarities. Would you want to be compared to Lady Gaga?

Michel Gondry
Legendary film maker and music video director Michel Gondry dismissed Gaga’s talent when asked about her two years ago. Michel has made videos for everyone from Bjork to The White Stripes and even The Rolling Stones. It doesn’t look like Gondry will be lining up to work with the pop singer anytime soon.

“I’m not interested. To me it’s like a form of Marilyn Manson. It’s hard for me to talk about it; I’ve seen a couple of videos of hers, and not for very long,” he said.

“I stop watching them each time because I don’t think there’s melodies. I’m sorry to be negative. Like I’m not a big fan of Madonna. I respect her very much, but unfortunately the videos didn’t help the music in the long run. Well, I guess it helped it to survive to the point where the video was irrelevant. So music has to find its own way, which is good for the music. I compare it to Marilyn Manson. The music to me is very expected,” he continued.

Bette Midler
Bette Midler is one legendary Hollywood diva you shouldn’t mess with and she’s probably the last person whose toes you want to step on. Bette took to Twitter in summer 2011 to vent her Gaga frustrations after Gaga was seen performing her “Mermaid in a Wheelchair” act on stage.

“I’m not sure @ladygaga knows that I’ve performed my mermaid in a wheelchair for millions of people — and many of them are still alive…” Bette tweeted last summer.

The next day she continued her disdain for Gaga’s performance. “Dear @ladygaga if you think a mermaid in a wheelchair seems familiar-it’s because it is!You can see it on youtube 24/7-with ME performing.

Gaga went on to claim to “Access Hollywood” she wasn’t aware of Bette’s on stage mermaid routine. “I had no idea that she did that and I’m a huge Bette Midler fan,” she said.

Do you think Lady Gaga is an original musician or is she copying styles from those before her? Sound off!

Did you hear that Madonna — desperate for attention and clearly irrelevant — waved guns on stage in Scotland, just hours after people were actually shot in Colorado? Shockingly insensitive, I know. Did you also hear that a major motion picture in which gun violence is a recurring theme proceeded with its opening in over four thousand theaters in the United States alone this weekend, and that it is also the movie people were actually killed at? Probably, but that story wasn’t presented the same way. Nor should it be. If anything, changing these diversions would deepen their association with a form of horrific, real-life violence that clearly neither one endorses.

Over 100 people were killed in a wave of bombings across Iraq yesterday, by the way. Anyone catch the shocker headline, “Michael Bay Not Retiring”? Neither did I.

Hating Madonna has been an international sport for decades now, but I seem to remember a higher class of criticism in the past — and that’s saying something. It even seemed to go away for a while, until she decided to get all old in our faces.
