It’s the president versus the actress.

Bette Midler and Donald Trump have made no secret of their mutual dislike for each other, but the actress’ latest dig at the US leader has sparked backlash online.

Midler took to social media following Trump’s controversial tweets earlier in the week about a female reporter.

The president branded MSNBC reporter Mika Brzezinski “crazy” and said he once refused to meet her because “she was bleeding badly from a face lift”. Read More

Freak Show’ tackles cliché with ‘trans-visionary’ grace

Editor’s Note: The arts and entertainment department is adjusting its grading scale from a letter-grade system to a numeric score out of 5. This change is intended to increase accuracy and consistency between reviews.

Director Trudie Styler described “Freak Show” as a “story of resistance” — and that’s right on the mark. Adapted from the James St. James novel of the same name, the film follows queer teen Billy Bloom (Alex Lawther of “The Imitation Game” fame). Lawther’s performance is spell-binding and genuine — Billy is radiant in extravagant costumes and possesses unapologetic confidence to boot. Read More

Bette Midler has never held back with her thoughts on Donald Trump’s presidency.

The funny lady has made plenty of criticisms of Trump’s policies and personality, and the billionaire leader has been no fan of hers in the past either, tweeting that she “sucked” when singing Wind Beneath My Winds at the 2014 Oscars.

But Midler has branched out a little in her latest tweet, taking a dig at Trump’s daughter Ivanka, who’s taken an office in the White House as an unpaid special adviser to her father, the president. The funny tweet got retweeted almost 3,000 times in just a few hours, as Midler’s followers wholeheartedly agreed with her sentiments. Read More

Bette Midler On Her Antitdote For Sadness Circa The Seventies:

Bette Midler On Her Antitdote For Sadness Circa The Seventies: “I love Teresa Brewer. Actually, ‘Wheel of Fortune’ was instrumental in setting me in my path. I attended The Ridiculous Theatrical Company once in the late 1960s and there was this girl in the cast. They had all these fanciful names and hers was Blackeyed Susan. She was kind of a running-gag character. In one part she was a hooker on the docks, and she came out and recited this endless Robert Service poem that made no sense at all. Then in this 1930s number she came out wrapped in toilet paper with dollar bills taped to her. She as the Statue of Liberty and she sang ‘Wheel of Fortune’.” Â (The National Observer , March 3, 1973) Read More

“Fashion Night Out” Begins Tonight! Will Bette Attend?

Forbes
Retailers and Vogue Editors Prepare For Fashion’s Night Out
Jenna Goudreau, Forbes Staff
9/07/2011

Retailers and designers around the world have been counting down the days until the third annual Fashion’s Night Out—the inspiration of Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour–which will launch tomorrow night at 6 p.m. Wintour promises Forbes that the “best fashion party in history” will be bigger and better than ever.

The extravaganza of runway shows, celebrity sightings and champagne freebies has expanded its online presence, including city-specific sites and regular updates on Vogue.com, Facebook and Twitter, and its global foothold to 18 countries. Wintour also expects this year’s FNO to extend to more U.S. locations; last year it ballooned to over 1,000 New York stores and more than 100 U.S. cities. Offering a modest bump in retail sales and donations to several charities, several A-list fashionistas like Sarah Jessica Parker, Heidi Klum, Ivanka Trump and Kim Kardashian will be among the many celebs to show their support of the international event.
