On talk of an Oscar nomination for “For The Boys”:

On talk of an Oscar nomination for “For The Boys”: “We’ll see. Who the hell knows? I mean, I think I should have been nominated for ‘Beaches. The critics didn’t like it, but the people sure adored it.” (1991, Los Angeles Times) – Bette Midler

Celebrating singer & actress Bette Midler – Some Leftover Birthday Celebration

Egypt Today
Celebrating singer & actress Bette Midler
By: Nizar Ahmed Fri, Dec. 1, 2017

CAIRO – 1 December 2017: December 1 is the birthday of the enchanting singer and actress Bette Midler, whose Grammy-award winning music has sold nearly 30 million copies worldwide, while her film roles have earned her Oscar nominations.

Born in Hawaii on 1945, Midler grew up poor alongside three other siblings, and found joy in the nature around her. Midler studied drama at the University of Hawaii, and got her very first start in movies as an extra on 1965’s “Hawaii”. Soon after, she moved to New York City to get her start in show business, with her earliest stints being a singer at a nightclub. She also had a role on Broadway’s popular “Fiddler on the Roof”. BetteBack April 1974: Bette Midler by Bette Midler

Bette Midler: Bette Midler (Atlantic)
April 1974

ALL THIS diverse material – old Broadway show tunes, a Phil Spector classic, a Wardell Gray jazz novelty, soul songs, Dylan – you can almost hear those presenting Bette murmuring, “See how versatile she is?”

BetteBack April 3, 1997: Being married and being Bette Midler not easy

Alton Telegraph
April 3, 1997

You have to be careful what you say on the Internet. You never know who’s watching.

One day there was a vicious debate going on about the movie The First Wives Club.

The participants were mostly men who were sniping at the film, grousing they were getting a bad rap. They were responsible fathers, paying child support and fulfilling their duties, they insisted.

In a final thrust, one of them scribbled, “ Yeah!! It must be a real chore being married to BETTE MIDLER.’’ Read More

BetteBack October 17, 1973: How’s She Doing? Great, You Bette!

Wisconsin State Journal
October 17, 1973

2016-08-29_4-26-26

The reigning resident kook of showbiz, Bette Midler, unloosed her own outrageous, schizophrenic self on more than 4,500 appreciative fans Wednesday night in the Dane County Coliseum and gave each more than an inkling of why she is coming on strong as the 1970s high priestess of super-camp.

From the opening shimmy out onto the stage, decked out in frizzled hair, pink ostrich fan, black-and-white slack suit, big red rose in the décolletage, and something like a yellow bird in her hair, singing her theme “You Gotta Have Friends,” she was every bit The Divine Miss M. Read More
