Want to have a Halloween movie night, but don’t want to be afraid of the dark? Here is a list of Halloween movies that aren’t scary.

They won’t make you flinch at every creak in your house or cry yourself to sleep. No horror films, no slashers, no thrillers. Just pure fun, spooky, Halloween glee.

HOCUS POCUS

What happens when a virgin lights the black-flame candle on Halloween night? Well, you might just wake up Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sisters. The three witches need to suck the lives out of little children to stay young and beautiful forever. Oh, and they sing a great rendition of “I Put a Spell on You.” The definitive Halloween movie, and the greatest of all time. Read More

Well, it’s finally official: Disney is working on a Hocus Pocus TV movie. The bad news for Sanderson purists? The new project will include a new cast and new director.

The original Disney film—in which three fabulous witches played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy get resurrected in Salem—is a cult classic and an autumnal standby on Disney and Freeform. According to Deadline, the TV movie, currently in the early stages of development, will be a “reimagining” of the original; David Kirschner, a producer from the original, will executive produce, but Scarlett Lacey (The Royals) will replace original screenwriters Neil Cuthbert and Mick Garris, and original director Kenny Ortega will be absent as well. Hocus Pocus Writer Says Sequel May Be a TV Movie

Hocus Pocus sequel may be in the works as a TV movie, according to screenwriter Mick Garris. The original film was first released in 1993, becoming a moderate success as a fun Halloween flick – but has since become a cult classic. The story of three witches brought back from the dead by a teen and his friends has only increased in popularity, with annual screenings in October in several theaters, events at Disney resorts, and even a full-length book about the film (released last year). 15 Camp Film Classics Every Gay Must See By Michael Musto

15 Camp Film Classics Every Gay Must See

Let me dim all the houselights and return to my favorite topic—campy films that you absolutely have to experience in order to attain your gay card. Some of these are campy because they’re trying to be, while others happen to be inadvertently hilarious epics that are so-bad-they’re-good, and that’s what makes them a camp. Whatever the case, go watch them immediately:

Mommie Dearest (1981)

Is it the movie that destroyed Faye Dunaway’s career or the one in which she shone most brilliantly? It’s hard to say, since she won the Golden Razzie for Worst Actress and was the runner-up for the New York Film Critics Best Actress award the very same year. She’s certainly a full throttle Joan (way before Jessica Lange in Feud) as she swivels her shoulder pads, raises her already raised eyebrows, and tortures daughter Christina. The mix of fashion show, tell-all, and Greek drama has long been irresistible to gays, whose nervous laughs always turn into shrieks of horror. Bring me the axe? No, bring me Mommie Dearest. (Faye lovers can also check out The Eyes of Laura MarsPuzzle of a Downfall Child, and just about everything she ever did). Read More

John Heard, one of America’s greatest actors of the past half century, has died at age 72.

Heard was found in a hotel room in Palo Alto, California. He had recently undergone back surgery only last week and was staying at the hotel to recover.

Police do not consider the death suspicious. “I can confirm that our officers responded with the Fire Department to a hotel in our city yesterday on a report of a person in need of medical aid,” a police spokesman said. “The person was determined to be deceased. While still under investigation, the death is not considered suspicious at this time.” Read More
