BetteBack November 19, 1974: Bette Midler Set To Return To Broadway

Gastonia Gazette
November 19, 1974

LAT_LIBRARY083108E_35461a_8col

BETTE MIDLER, a.k.a. the Divine Miss M, whose career began on Broadway as a chorus girl in “Fiddler on the Roof,” will be back on the boards, this time as the star of her own production. “The Bette Midler Revue” is exactly what it sounds like — hoofing, chirping, clowning and presenting some unspecified “new characterizations,” with the stage to herself. No date or theater has been named.

In her debut album with Warner Brothers Music Midler gives fans something new to listen to.

She’s all over the place on the 12 tracks – her trademark ballads, rhythm and blues, and even songs that evoke memories of her as The Divine Miss M in the 1970’s with I’m Beautiful.

Nobody can sing a ballad like Midler who shines on My One True Friend, the single from the movie, One True Thing. It comes 11th on the album but is worth the wait for those who haven’t tired of hearing it on the radio. Read More

A bruxh with an excited fan led to Bathhouse Betty, the title of Bette Midler first new album in three years.

“I was in my house down in Orange County. I was all by myself and I was nervous because I don’t like to be alone. It’s kind of scary,” Midler said in this week’s Billboard magazine.

During ‘71 72 and now 73, female stars poured out with such goodies as Carole King, Carly Simon and Melanie. But there is a new girl now making an old style but a fresh sound.

Bette Midler excites the female rock scene in every way she can.
