For about 40 years the Hollywood Foreign Press Association gave out a Golden Globe Award for “New Star of the Year.” Between 1948 and 1983 the group gave a trophy to a film newcomer whom they thought would have a big career. Sometimes the award was given to both a male and a female actor, some years just one award was given, and some years multiple winners of both sexes were named. The award was discontinued after a scandal in the early 1980s. Do YOU think it should be reinstated and, if so, who you would choose as the recipient at the 2018 Golden Globes? Read More

“Congrats on removing your first monument to racism!”

White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon was forced out of President Donald Trump’s administration on Friday (Aug. 18), and musicians and celebrities were quick to weigh in about it on Twitter.

Most expressed glee at Bannon’s exit, while others poked fun at the strategist’s role during his brief White House tenure, referring to him as the President due to his perceived influence on Trump’s policies. Read More

Exclusive Bette Midler Interview

NEW YORK, NY: Don’t let all the recession-obsessed soothsayers fool you. People are still lining up to see a good show. At around midnight of the evening before tickets went on sale at the Minskoff Theatre for Bette Midler’s Clams on the Half Shell Revue, the line began to form for what turned out to be the largest single day ticket sale in Broadway history. The previous record had been set more than a year ago by Bette Midler at the Palace Theatre. Red Skelton said it when he was told that over 10,000 people had shown up at movie mogul Harry Cohen’s funeral: “Give the people something they want to see and they’ll come out for it.”At a time when people were selling apples on the street corners in Greenwich Village for $1.50 each, I’m convinced now that we do indeed need it now. I consider myself a New Yorker.

I consider myself a New Yorker. I’ve had a lot of good times in New York, and I’ve had a lot of success. I’ve put a lot of effort into the city, and I really love it, but I was born and brought up in Hawaii. I go there at least a couple of times a year, and I still feel like a Hawaiian. You know, you’re always happiest in your childhood home. My heart is there. That’s where I’m comfortable. (New York Post, Jan 2, 2004)

“Past is fucking prologue,” Roger Stone likes to say, but this isn’t a story about him.

It’s a story about Joe Lieberman, and why—to the best of my recollection—Martha Stewart elbowed me to defend his honor. Thanks for nothing, Bette Midler.

So, 2000, the year we got a taste of what could happen when a Democrat wins the popular vote but not the presidency. Al Gore tapped Lieberman, a certified scold from the Tipper Gore school, as his running mate in no small part to signify that there’d be no unconstitutional intercourse from a ticket with him on top. Huckabee to Hollywood: Lay Off Trump or Risk Going Broke

Mike Huckabee has issued a dire warning to Hollywood and the music industry: Stop lashing out at President-elect Donald Trump or face big financial consequences courtesy of fed-up Americans.

“If snarky late night comics and pompous music stars keep alienating their audiences with angry, leftist political diatribes, they might eventually find themselves performing on street corners for spare change, next to some smelly guy who’s been out there holding a sign reading ‘The World Is Coming To An End’ since 1981,” the former Arkansas governor said on his Facebook page late Thursday.
