More recently upon a time, Sonny ” and Cher decided “for better or worse” did not mean “till death us do part,” and they decided to divorce. Read More

Bette Midler On What She Might Do After The Rose;

Bette Midler On What She Might Do After The Rose; “I might end up in opera, who knows? I think I’d like to do some version of Salome, a rock and roll version of Salome. I saw a real serious version of it the other day on some cheesy channel. You know the ones you have to fiddle with to get the channel.” (Advocate, November 10, 1977)

BetteBack October 29, 1973: Bette Midler’s New Album Will Be A Collector’s Item Dream

Greeley Daily Tribune
October 29, 1973

In little over a year Bette Midler has become the most exciting new star of the 1970s.

Her club and concert appearances are all SRO; she has a TV special in the offering; her first album on Atlantic records turned to gold.

You can’t ask for much more than that in such a short period of time.

Bette’s new album is full of the magic that made her a superstar in so short a time and it’s entitled simply “Bette Midler.” She sings songs old and new, investing them all with the warmth and feeling that gives them new life and freshness, whether they are happy or tragic, camp or torch. Looks like Bette Midler won’t be making the trip to the small screen anytime soon. La Bette had been in talks to star in a mid season ABC sitcom.

She was reportedly close to a deal with the network, but couldn’t work things out with production company, Carsey-Werner.

Bette Midler On Singing State Songs In Concert:

Bette Midler On Singing State Songs In Concert: “It gives me a laugh. I really do make an effort to find a Colorado song or a Carolina song, depending on where we are. The band and I always like to see what happens when you sing the state song of wherever you happen to be. Very funny things can happen, especially in the Midwest. It keeps us on our toes and gives the audience a giggle.” (Boston Globe, 1994)

The Boston Globe
November 19, 1973

One attends a Bette Midler concert partly to be seen.

So when this most overground of underground pop stars arrived in Boston for a sold-out two night stand on Wednesday, many in attendance were carefully eyeing each other.

As, such a setting for the happily tacky “Divine Miss M.” The glitter of the Music Hall is a perfect backdrop of tinsel for the frizzy-haired singer who works so hard at projecting the image of a silver-lame schlepper.

Ms. Midler is perfectly willing to let her audience in on the act, and they love her for it. The lobby was filled with fur, dyed hair, six-inch heels and flowers, not to mention an occasional painted face. Read More
