‘Dear Evan Hansen’ wins Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album

Dear Evan Hansen

“Dear Evan Hansen” added another award to its shelf Sunday.

The musical won the 2018 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, over its competitors “Hello, Dolly!” and “Come From Away.” “Dear Evan Hansen” also won three Tony Awards in 2017: Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Book of Musical.

The Grammy Award also adds to the building acclaim for composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who now have an Oscar, for their work on “La La Land,” as well as a Tony and a Grammy for “Dear Evan Hansen.” Read More

Grammys 2018: Can superstar Bette Midler (‘Hello Dolly!’) beat the crossover success of ‘Dear Evan Hansen’?

For the first time since 2014 there are only three Grammy nominees for Best Musical Theater Album as opposed to the five that have been included in the last three years. Each of the three nominated cast recordings that made the cut this year came from musical productions — “Come From Away,” “Dear Evan Hansen,” and “Hello Dolly!” — that were seen as highlights of the 2016-17 Broadway season. But the latter two, “Hansen” and “Dolly,” may have the best shot of winning given what this category’s statistics have shown us in recent years. Read More
