Mark Rydell On Bette In The Rose:

Mark Rydell On Bette In The Rose: “Bette’s performance is shattering. She has a very raw sense of the truth. This film is savage. The music is severe. And the look is brutal,” (Plain Dealer, September 17, 1978)

Bette Midler On Her Father: “My father never went to see my performances. I think he saw The Rose on television, and he saw me on the Johnny Carson Show., but he just wasn’t interested. He didn’t like popular culture. He thought it was garbage. If I had been an opera singer—that he would have understood, or a professional person.” (Syracuse Herald, February 5, 1989)

BetteBack July 14, 1995: How Can I Write Bette Midler?

Lethbridge Herald
July 14, 1995

HEDGE YOUR BETTE – I have written to fan clubs in the States and never gotten a reply. What gives? How can I join the Bette Midler fan club? -David Losier, Bathurst, N.B.

I’ll hazard a guess. Almost any U S. fan club instructs you to enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope – with U.S. postage. If you didn’t do that, or if you put Canadian postage on it, your letter was probably discarded.

At last report, you could write to Midler herself at: Miss M Productions, 1838 2nd Ave #120, New York, NY 10128 Read More

On What She’d Really Like To Do After The Rose:

Bette Midler On What She’d Really Like To Do After The Rose: “I really want to do a technicolor musical comedy – a great big, old fashioned musical comedy. The kind they don’t seem to know how to make anymore. I see them on TV and I still go to the theaters that still show them. They drive me mad – they’re so full of light and color and sound and people acting happy. (Eugene Register-Guard – Nov 19, 1977)

Bette Midler On What She Might Do After The Rose:

Bette Midler On What She Might Do After The Rose: “I might do an opera, who knows? I think I’d like to do some version of “Salome,” a rock and roll version of Salome. I saw a real serious version of it the other day on some cheesy channel. It was sensational. This woman, this Salome, was great. She had the head of John The Baptist on a plate, flinging it about. It was amazing.” (Eugene Register-Guard – Nov 19, 1977)

From tributes to musical icons who are no longer with us to performances from artists destined to go down in history as iconic in their own right, the 2016 Grammys boasted some of the best live Grammy performances in years.

While a few songs were marred by sound issues (and unfortunately, doctor’s orders prevented Rihanna from performing at all), even more of them ranked among the best Grammy performances in recent history. Here are the performances at the 2016 Grammys ranked worst to best. Read More

Rock Show: Highlights Are Billy Joe Armstrong, Bette Midler and the Beastie Boys

New York Daily News
HBO’s Rock Hall of Fame induction wheels along despite the no-show by Axl Rose
Top performers include Billy Joe Armstrong, Bette Midler and the Beastie Boys
Friday, May 4, 2012, 8:00 AM

The annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies never have and probably never will lend themselves to being a perfect TV package.

That doesn’t mean the edited version airing Saturday on HBO doesn’t have its fun moments.

Those who equate rock ’n’ roll with shouting 12-letter words at the audience will be hooked from the beginning, when Billy Joe Armstrong of Green Day starts the show by doing just that. Read More

Will The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ever Induct Bette Midler

Showbiz 411
Rock Hall Show a Bust As Group Recycles Itself
04/15/12 Roger Friedman

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame annual induction show used to be a big deal. Remember the Waldorf Hotel big jam sessions with names like Springsteen, McCartney, Jagger, Richards, etc? Am I showing my age? Yes. because that’s when it was a Hall of Fame. Now reduced to rubble, the Hall of Fame show–held in Cleveland this year–was a shadow of its former self. No-shows due to illness were Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys and Rod Stewart of the Faces/Small Faces, although Rod’s already in as a solo act. Axl Rose protested the event, so Guns n Roses played without him. Read More
