What connects you to Sophie?

What connects you to Sophie? “Sophie is very bright and independent. She does shows for us. My husband and I are the audience. And we have a spotlight in our house – it came with the building. She chooses her music, she does her dance. She decides how she’s going to entertain us. And he’s quite wonderful…. Also, we have inner together every single night. Either my husband cooks or I cook. if we’re going out, we prepare her food and talk about it ahead of time. We always check her homework. And we take her to ballet rehearsals. We really do try very hard.” (Good Housekeeping, 1996) Read More

Facebook seems to have something of legality issue on its hands, with the recent news that several artists, including Prince, Celine Dion, and The Beatles have had their names put up for sale as advertising keywords on the popular social network.

What do Prince, The Beatles, The Chainsmokers, Celine Dione, Maroon 5, Jimi Hendrix and Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. all have in common? Each of their names are for sale as advertising keywords on Facebook. (Although we’ll just look at Facebook today, it’s highly likely that the same is true of Google and other advertising networks that profit from the sale of keywords.) Read More

Bette Midler – Bette Midler

There’s not much one can say about Bette Midler that hasn’t already been said at least a thousand times before.

Therefore let’s skip the adjectives and take a look at her second album for Atlantic Records simply titled “Bette Midler.”

Once again Barry ManUow has suited her with a batch of distinctive arrangements, as Bette accompanies herself on three cuts with just a piano, using an orchestra and background vocals on all the other tunes. Read More

Lincoln Evening Journal

The album Bette Midler (Atlantic SD-7270) is out of another era. And it’s a gas.

She’s the vamp of the 70’s. but brings back the sound and feel of the music of the 30’s.

The album has a socko impact with a sleepy acquiescence that only Miss Midler can provide.

Her style combines a smooth flowing ease and lackadaisical feel, if that’s possible.

And then she turns around and gives a soulful black interpretation to “Higher and Higher.” She does a fine job on an old Kurt Weill torch tune entitled “Surabaya Johnny.” Read More
