BetteBack March 21, 1975: Is Bette Midler Filming A TV Series?

Charleston Gazette

Q. — I was told that Bette Midler is going to appear on TV as a regular on a show without singing. Is this possible? — P.B., Bridgeport, Conn.

A. It’s possible, but it’s not about to happen. Bette Midler has not been signed to star in a straight non-musical TV series. However.she is a capable actress and would probably do well playing an offbeat character in a TV series. Bette’s current plans do not involve TV … she is readying Broadway revue in which she will star. Read More

For about 40 years the Hollywood Foreign Press Association gave out a Golden Globe Award for “New Star of the Year.” Between 1948 and 1983 the group gave a trophy to a film newcomer whom they thought would have a big career. Sometimes the award was given to both a male and a female actor, some years just one award was given, and some years multiple winners of both sexes were named. The award was discontinued after a scandal in the early 1980s. Do YOU think it should be reinstated and, if so, who you would choose as the recipient at the 2018 Golden Globes? Read More

Broadway is breaking another price barrier.

Producers of “Hello, Dolly!” are now charging $998 for front row seats at many performances between late November and mid-January, when Bette Midler leaves the cast, according to a review of ticket prices on the Telecharge website. With fees, each of those seats will cost $1,009.

The price is a record for a non-holiday performance on Broadway. “Hamilton” is the only show that has reached that level before, charging $998 for some seats during the Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks last year. Read More

Midler on the word “Diva”: “You know, I popularized that word diva. But I think that term is misused now. Every other filly out of the gate is called a diva nowadays. And you know what? They ain’t divas to me!” And I do not like the competition! Not that I have any.” (1991, Los Angeles Times) – Bette Midler

    Cher

71-year-old Cher looks more glam, fit and fabulous than the majority of us ever have. More importantly, however, she’s one of the gay community’s most vocal advocates. As well as playing a lesbian in the film Silkwood, and cameoing in Will & Grace as the idol of gay character Jack McFarland, Cher supported her son Chaz Bono’s gender transition.
