HELLO, DOLLY! has confirmed that legendary star Bette Midler will officially depart the Broadway show on January 14th.

No details yet on any potential replacement or other future plans for the hit production, but BroadwayWorld will keep you updated as we learn more.

The new Broadway production of Hello, Dolly! nabbed four Tony Award wins this year, including Best Revival of a Musical, Best Actress in a Musical (Ms. Midler), Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Gavin Creel), and Best Costume Design of a Musical (Santo Loquasto). Read More

Bette Midler isn’t the only one singing on the soundtrack for the
recently broadcast television special of the classic Broadway musical.
But she’s the only one who matters.

It’s not that Peter Riegert (as Herbie) and Cynthia Gibb (as
Louise, who becomes the stripper Gypsy Rose Lee) are terrible. They’re
not. They just can’t hold a candle to Midler, who sinks her vocal chords
into tunes made famous by Ethel Merman (“Some People,” “Everything’s
Coming Up Roses”) and doesn’t let go until she claims these songs as her

MYKKI BLANCO did not spring from nowhere. Rather, she emerged, Venus-like, one day last summer, when Michael David Quattlebaum Jr. decided to step out for the first time in head-to-toe drag, including a black bathing suit with padded breasts and fake Chanel purse.

“I call it my golden-ticket day,” Mr. Quattlebaum said, recounting how he (or rather “she”) was hit on five times. “It was like Pandora’s box opened.”

Since then Mykki Blanco, Mr. Quattlebaum’s glamazon alter ego, has become a redoubtable presence on the downtown art and cabaret scene. More avant-garde objet d’art than drag queen, Mykki wears a fearsome honey-brown wig while performing allusive rap with a radical-gay bent. Read More
