Resignation; Tom Arnold Says Franken Accuser Was “Manipulated”
by Greg Evans
December 7, 2017

With beleaguered Sen. Al Franken answering the will-he-won’t-he question — he did — today at 11:45 am ET, Hollywood seems more divided over the issue than even Franken’s Senate compadres. While a critical mass of fellow Democrats demanded Franken’s resignation, some celebrities and TV pundits aren’t so sure.

“Franken bullied out of office,” tweeted playwright Eric Bogosian, adding, “Democrats eat their young.” Billy Baldwin, meanwhile, tweeted a list of harassers from Hollywood, the media and the Democratic Party who’ve lost their jobs, while Trump and Moore remain standing. “The GOP is a disgrace,” he wrote. Let me dim all the houselights and return to my favorite topic—campy films that you absolutely have to experience in order to attain your gay card. Some of these are campy because they’re trying to be, while others happen to be inadvertently hilarious epics that are so-bad-they’re-good, and that’s what makes them a camp. Whatever the case, go watch them immediately:

Mommie Dearest (1981)

Is it the movie that destroyed Faye Dunaway’s career or the one in which she shone most brilliantly? It’s hard to say, since she won the Golden Razzie for Worst Actress and was the runner-up for the New York Film Critics Best Actress award the very same year. She’s certainly a full throttle Joan (way before Jessica Lange in Feud) as she swivels her shoulder pads, raises her already raised eyebrows, and tortures daughter Christina. The mix of fashion show, tell-all, and Greek drama has long been irresistible to gays, whose nervous laughs always turn into shrieks of horror. Bring me the axe? No, bring me Mommie Dearest. (Faye lovers can also check out The Eyes of Laura MarsPuzzle of a Downfall Child, and just about everything she ever did). Read More

Bette Midler On Being Compared To Mae West:

Bette Midler On Being Compared To Mae West: “I got a lot of inspiration from Mae West. When I first started working, a friend brought one of her records over. Through it all, Mae West was a source of pleasure. I love her, She was quite marvelous. She was also quite independent, which I liked. So the first time I worked on television I did one of her songs. I’ve also been compared to Barbra Streisand. That’s flattering, although I don’t see the comparison myself. (Springfield Union, September 1, 1976) Read More

Bette Midler On The Method To Her Madness:

Bette Midler On The Method To Her Madness: “The same is true of my show. It’s put together by everybody. Everybody pitches in. I pick and choose what I like, what amuses me, and then discard the rest.” (Evening Star, March 11, 1976)

Singer Bette Midler seems to be making enemies at a fast clip these days.

Last year she ridiculed Cher, who was experiencing the biggest hit of her career.

Then Midler closed the year with some jabs at fellow diva Barbra Streisand during her New Year’s Eve show in Vegas. She had a Streisand impersonator saunter onto the stage near midnight. Acting stunned, Midler queried, “Barbra, what are you doing here?”

The Streisand look-alike responded, “I wanted to be with my husband at midnight.” Read More

Hello, Dolly! is this season’s impossible ticket. But look no further.

As recently shared by The Divine Miss M on Instagram, live this morning at Charitybuzz.com is the chance at two tickets and After Party passes to the opening night performance of Hello, Dolly! on April 20.

Bidding is open through April 6th and is in support of The Jeckyl Foundation, a non-profit organization started by Bette Midler, which provides resources and financial support to cultural, educational and environmental organizations working to improve communities in need around the world. Over the past decade the foundation has renovated public parks and gardens; supported theater, dance and music programs in public schools; assisted homeowners rebuilding storm damaged homes; helped secure the acquisition of sacred Sioux lands; provided critical financial support to health organizations working in Haiti; and launched a project to improve public school auditoriums in New York City.
