BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) – Michael Douglas was initially confused when he was told that he was being honored with a career achievement honor by the AARP Movies for Grownups Awards.

The star of such films as “Wall Street” and “Fatal Attraction” told the crowd at Monday’s glitzy ceremony that his assistant mistakenly informed him that he was receiving an award for his work in adult films.

“I remember all my films,” joked Douglas after receiving a standing ovation. “I don’t remember any adult films.” Read More

Bette Midler caused a minor stir recently by suggesting that Disney has held off on producing a sequel to 1993’s Hocus Pocus, in which she starred with Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker, because the studio “can’t find a virgin.” Of course, her joke also served to remind people that The Divine Miss M was once a bankable actress in Hollywood. Midler has kept a low profile recently, although she is due to have a role in Trudie Styler’s Freak Show, about a high school boy who runs for homecoming queen. The teaming of Allen and Mazursky, two of our finest contemporary directors, seemed like a cinematic marriage made in heaven, but with the film have thundered across Tinsel Town for months. First, its release was abruptly pushed back from the holiday season, and then
The Hollywood Reporter, an industry publication known for cheers, not jeers, hinted that the film was blander than the decor of a turnpike rest siop. Read More
