How the album got it’s name: “One morning I was alone in my beach house making coffee and I heard someone outside the door shouting ‘Bathhouse Betty! Bathhouse Betty! Come Out!’ It was some drunken fan, holding the most pathetic bouquest of wilted flowers. Of course, I was frightened, but at the same time it was so funny. I thought to myself,’Well, Bette, I guess you haven’t come so far after all…’” – Bette Midller

BetteBack February 6, 1975: Critics Get A Preview Of The Cher Special
San Mateo Times
February 6, 1975
There is no question that when Sonny Bono started his “Sonny Comedy Hour” he missed Cher.
The absence of Cher was one of the real reasons for the show failing to make it through the season.
Not only did Sonny’s show lack writing, it lacked comedy.
Next Wednesday night, Cher will try it on her own. This show, a special designed to kick off her new series, came off much better than did Sonny’s solo venture in television.
It was the presence of Cher that made the old “Sonny and Cher Show” a success. The girl can wear clothes like a high fashion model.

40 years later, Bette Midler’s ‘Rose’ a better rockumentary than character study
Out And About Nashville
40 years later, Bette Midler‘s ‘Rose’ a better rockumentary than character study
RETRO FILM REVIEW: The Rose
July 15, 2017 Joseph Brant
You’re either old enough to have seen this film at least once, or you’re so young that you’ve not ever heard of it. There doesn’t really seem to be an in-between.
Bette Midler is an icon, a gay icon of the highest stature and though she had a moment of breakthrough to the pop culture zeitgeist a year or so ago with a Kardashian Twitter fued(link is external), and despite a coveted ‘Belle of the Ball’ appearance (and win) at this year’s Tony Awards for her universally acclaimed performance in Hello Dolly, she’s not held the American imagination as much as when she first broke through in the 1970s. Or even during her return to form, a film renaissance in the late 1980s.
