New York Restoration Project (NYRP), the Bette Midler-founded non-profit that has spent over two decades transforming open spaces in New York’s under-resourced communities, has teamed up with longtime supporter and board member, Michael Kors, to design the first ever solar-powered community garden in New York City.

Located in Brooklyn, the NYRP-developed Essex Street Community Garden was brought to life yesterday when the renowned fashion designer and his team rolled up their sleeves to plant, paint and beautify the space. Kors and his staff were also joined by Martha Hunt and Freja Beha Erichsen. Level Solar donated the solar panels, engineering and installation expertise to complete the project on the park’s covered canopy. Read More

It’s so nice to have “Hello Dolly” back where it belongs—on Broadway! This classic musical revival is playing at the Shubert Theatre on 44th Street and stars the marvelous Bette Midler as Dolly Levi. Midler is funny and charming in the role and completely at ease.

“Hello Dolly” is all that a Broadway musical should be. It brings elegance, class and charm to the Great White Way. The timeless songs with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman are absolutely heavenly to experience. The costumes, some of the most colorful, vibrant costumes you will find on the Broadway stage, and the set by Santo Loquasto mesmerize the audience. They remind one of what a musical is supposed to do, transport you to another time, another way of life, a simpler time, and “Hello Dolly” definitely does that. You go back to the time of the horse-drawn carriage, millinery shops and small parades. A simpler time when matchmaking was a profession and Dolly was excellent at it. Read More

Bette Midler wears this signature headpiece in the revival’s signature title song, as Dolly Levi descends the staircase to greet the adoring staff at the Harmonia Gardens restaurant. About 30 inches wide and made of wire, beading and burnt ostrich feathers dyed red, it was built by Rodney Gordon, a go-to Broadway hat maker. Read More
