Jean Paul Gaultier Presents Top Hats, Turbans and Riding Clothes to an Admiring Audience, Including Bette Midler, Ines de la Fressange, Zahia Dehar and Others

Bette Midler said she came to the Jean Paul Gaultier haute couture show, both as an admirer of the designer and a customer of the house.

The July 4 show marked Midler’s first Gaultier show in Paris. For her daughter Sophie, along for the ride, the day seemed to be shaping up to be a fun experience. Read More

Hocus Pocus II In Development? Without Bette Midler? Will It Work? I Doubt It!!!

Movie Hole
Exclusive : Disney developing sequel to Hocus Pocus

Any fans of “Hocus Pocus”, the 1993 flick starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as three vacuum-riding witches doing battle with trick or treaters on their night of their resurrection? What about you? Yes! You! The one trying to pop the nose wart with the dislodged F5 key on his iPad console? You liked it, didn’t ya?

Actually, I remember liking it too. Don’t think I’ve ever seen it since it was a new release rental in the local video library – this is going back some fifteen years or so – but I do recall it being a fun family flick. And if I’m not mistaken, introduced me – and several other ‘What is happening to me?’ readers – to the rather foxy Vinessa Shaw (who would go on to play a much more saucier role in Stanley Kubrick’s “Eyes Wide Shut”). Bette’s Biggest Style Lesson To Sophie: “Wear high heels!”

The Star
Couture Week: Jeanne Beker takes in Jean Paul Gaultier and Valentino shows in Paris
By Jeanne Beker
Fashion Columnist

PARIS—It’s couture week, I’ve happily found myself in the City of Light, on assignment for Etalk, en route to a wedding celebration in the south of France. How could I resist dropping by a couple of couture shows? After all, I’ve religiously combed these fashion trenches with a trusty TV crew in tow for the past 27 years! I longed to soak up the atmosphere, and lap up the exquisite creations these inspiring shows always promise. So straight off the plane, in the 90-degree plus heat, I donned a slinky orange Lida Baday dress, teamed it with a pair of six-inch Rupert Sanderson patent pumps, and made my way over to the Jean Paul Gaultier show on rue St. Martin. Gaultier “Waiting Period” Due To Movie Making

WWD
Front Row at Jean Paul Gaultier
July 4, 2012

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION: They say that movie sets are 90 percent waiting and 10 percent actual filming. That’s certainly how it felt at the Jean Paul Gaultier couture show on Wednesday, which doubled as the backdrop for the latest comedy starring Valérie Lemercier — France’s answer to Tina Fey.

As the actress sat in character in the front row, flanked by costar Marina Foïs, a voice announced the show would start in 20 minutes — but by that time, it was already almost an hour past the scheduled start. (Gaultier officials insist it was a snafu in the atelier that delayed embroideries, not the movie making, that held up the show.) Read More
