As the co-owner and head esthetician of the legendary skincare haven Face Place, this seasoned specialist has helped stars like Emmy Rossum, Sofia Coppola, Emma Stone, Meg Ryan, Bette Midler and Mary Louise Parker maintain flawless skin for years. What is the best order of products for morning and night skincare routines?
“For morning, start with an exfoliator, then cleanser, toner, day serum, moisturizer and sunscreen. For night, start with makeup remover (if necessary), then cleanser, toner, night serum and heavier moisturizer.”
How often should we get facials?
“Face Place encourages clients to receive more frequent treatments during the warmer months, as heat, humidity and sunscreen wreak havoc on the skin. Your skin also tends to be oilier with a greater tendency to form blackheads and breakouts. Despite their best intentions, many clients get some amount of sun exposure, so the Face Place Facial Treatment helps to heal sunburned skin, while soothing and repairing damaged tissues. For best results, we encourage our clients to book their appointments at least every two weeks during the summer months.”
What should a healthy skin diet include?
“In addition to an effective skincare routine, what you eat and don’t eat can also help you achieve a glowing, supple complexion. Consuming more fresh fish, flax seeds, herbal tea and food items that contain vitamin E for healthy looking and soft skin. Cottage cheese, olive oil and walnuts also combat the effects of dryness and transform your skin to its natural, youthful glow. Eat more fresh berries because they infuse dull skin with color and brightness. Watermelon is a great fruit to help you hydrate fast because it contains loads of vitamins A and C and has no fat. Bananas, cantaloupe and apples are also great for hydration. Of course, avoid junk food or processed foods, which contribute to pasty complexions.”
What are some of your favorite at-home skincare remedies?
“Here are a few great recipes to try:
1. If you want your skin to glow with health, a good choice is ground almonds. You usually associate ground almonds with exfoliation however this nut has plenty of natural oil. Create a paste of ground almonds and milk. About 15 minutes before you head to the shower, apply almond paste as a scrub for your body and leave it on to allow the oil to soak in, then wash it off in the shower.
2. Minimize dark circles by applying crushed mint leaves to the under-eye area and leave on for 20 minutes. You can also mix your foundation with a good moisturizer like the Face Place Cell Regenerator for both coverage and moisture.
3. Prepare a face mask for dry skin by mixing together one teaspoon of honey, half a teaspoon of olive oil, one egg and a few drops of water. Apply it twice a week, rinse off with lukewarm water, and enjoy your newly moisturized skin!”
