Look out Las Vegas! Here comes the divine Bette Midler.
Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award winner Midler begins her two-year engagement at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace Feb. 20. Midler succeeds pop singer Celine Dion at the Vegas venue.
Midler � who has titled her new concert act The Showgirl Must Go On � will be backed by a 13-piece band, 20 female dancers and the Harlettes (Jordan Ballard, Kyra Dacosta and Kamilah Martin) in an evening that will feature an eclectic mix of tunes and characters (expect the wheelchair-bound mermaid Delores Delago and old, old Soph). Audiences can also expect to hear such Midler standards as “Wind Beneath My Wings,” “When a Man Loves a Woman” and “From a Distance.”
Bette Midler made her Broadway debut as Tzeitel in the original Broadway production of Fiddler on the Roof. She returned to the Great White Way in several concerts: Bette Midler, Bette Midler’s Clams on the Half Shell Revue and Bette! Divine Madness. She was awarded a Special Tony Award in 1974 for “adding luster to the Broadway season.” Midler’s screen credits are extensive and include Oscar nominations for her performances in “For the Boys” and “The Rose.” She is also the recipient of Grammy Awards for Record of the Year (“Wind Beneath My Wings,” 1989), Best Pop Vocal Performance Female (“The Rose,” 1980) and Best New Artist (1973).
